The Coronation, June 1953. King Alfred’s men in cricket whites (and boaters) bear the Church of England Training Colleges banner past the guildhall in the celebratory procession.

“Dickie’s Dragon” honoured Principal Dickinson – in the Coronation Procession representing King Alfred’s. Another picture of the procession in this collection shows the rural nature of the Sparkford Road area in those days.

January 1960. At the end of the decade change was coming. The men protest against the admission of women to the College, proposed in the Winter of 1958, with a three-legged race which set out from Winchester Westgate.
